Jack wasn't opposed to a skatepark, really, but there wasn't the scrape, whirl or slap of flip turns anymore. Instead, the pool looked more forlorn than before. "Equal opportunity," he stated as he stood on the side of the the newly cleaned and patched pool. It was filling with clear, sparkling water. He looked across at the other tower and saw the life guard stepping off his stand.
"Their season will be over, and ours is just beginning." Turning he saw the mist rising.
All along the sides of the pool Jack placed several mason jars with candles in them. The sun was setting and their lights flickered and reflected in the rising water. The music also ascended to the roof.
Jack hummed along as he continued to sweep and scrub the patio until sunset. He stopped and knelt down to feel the water. He cupped it in his hands, stood-up and let it trickle down. Singing along, "But I don't know what time it is, it's in a jar," he looked around at the candles. "Which of these lights will light the way to justice for Mr. Evans?"
He pulled an old chair next to the pool, sat down and looked-up at the stars. He smiled as he heard, "Come in, she said,
I'll give you shelter from the storm."
"“But goodness alone is never enough. A hard, cold wisdom is required for goodness to accomplish good." ~Robert A. Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land
